Fall In Love With America - Again.

August 14 2010

I’m working on my latest project – ‘Fall In Love With America – Again’ – an innovative, timely and important new documentary style web and mobile based multimedia series highlighting stories from across America – stories from big cities, small towns, communities, neighborhoods, streets, homes, rooms… It’s all about what we think America is, who American’s are, how we see ourselves, and how we welcome the world to our home.

I’m the co-executive producer of the project, working with the talented Amber Roniger and Dennis Gelbaum.

The ‘Fall In Love With America – Again’ project is an ex…

Is Time Really On Your Side?

July 19 2010

Every morning I log onto my Outlook and there it is staring at me in the face – my absolute failure to accomplish what I wanted to in any given day in the form of my Outlook “Reminders”. There is the “call Volvo for maintenance service” from 3 weeks ago, “bring in couch cushions for reupholstering” from 2 weeks ago”, “buy birthday gift for my client” from 1 week ago, and so on. And, these reminders make noise when they pop up – it’s my never ending automatic nag. It reminds me that while there are 1,440 minutes in a day, or 10,080 minutes in a week, I can’t, or am unwilling to, find the …

KFC: Eating out of Both Sides of Its Brand

April 25 2010

Eden Essick, our Project Manager at Nucleus recently pondered KFC’s shift from healthy grilled chicken to the ooey gooey Double Down…

The Blogosphere is abuzz with commentary on KFC’s new sandwich, the Double Down. There seems to be a general repulsion slash fascination with the Double Down, inevitably leading to the Who Can Eat It and Live to Tell the Tale challenge taken on by the likes of Sam Sifton of the NY Times and the guys over at NPR’s Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me blog.

The reaction here is likely exacerbated by the stark contrast between creating sandwiches that replace bread wit…

The Online Survey: Fast, Cheap, But Not Always Good

March 26 2010

A recent article in AdAge by Constance O’Hare (Online Research: Don’t Confuse More with Better, 3.15.10)) suggests the speed and relative ease of online research studies may have a negative effect on the research business.

At Nucleus we whole-heartedly agree with O’Hare who warns, “The ease of fielding multiple online studies naturally appeals to executives grasping for insights and under pressure to make decisions quickly. But too many impatient executives throw away money on poorly constructed studies. Studies that produce speedy…

The Brand Value of Intention vs Perception

March 21 2010

In this video created by the publisher, Penguin (whose book jacket design has long been a subject of our deep admiration) we see the difference between perception and intention.

As the first half of the video plays we imagine its inspiration is the result of long-held opinion or potentially some focus group research. As the second half of the video plays we see a turn-around (literally) that is much more likely the result of a deep understanding of the audience that or…

How to Boost Your Brand

Leigh George, Expert in Other
March 3 2010

Pull out your business card. What impression of your firm does it leave in the minds of the people you meet? Does your firm come across as traditional? Contemporary? Innovative? Would it stand out from the cards of your competitors? Does the identity on the card ring true to people at your firm? In today’s market, where companies are cutting their internal audit departments and the accounting industry is still experiencing job losses, every accounting firm needs a strong brand to increase name awareness, protect and build market share and instill loyalty in its staff. To build a memorable b…

The WINning View - The Need for Perfection

Denise Berger, Expert in Other
June 26 2009

My good friend, Jill Diamond of Lanartco, is an entrepreneur, business owner and consultant on topics of presence, communication and language. She recently posed this question on her LinkedIn profile: “Are You Doing Enough?” My initial reaction was a defensive one: of course I don’t think I am doing enough! Ugh. Why can’t I be doing more? better? stronger? broader? I need to get out there and do more, be more, live more, see more, experience more, please more, feel more, learn more, and impact more!!!! It all just makes me want to go back to bed…
