I am thrilled to announce the launch of ChickRx.com, an incredibly engaging, witty and much-needed health website for 20-something women. I could not be more excited about the product ChickRx delivers and the roots of this incredible startup. The ChickRx story is, in so many ways, the 85 Broads story.
In 2005, I invited 11 fabulous undergraduate women to join me as interns in the 85 Broads “lab” in Greenwich. We talked about and worked on ways to advance the mission of 85 Broads: to help women invest in what they love and, more importantly, to invest in themselves and those they admire.
Two very special interns from our “class of ’05,” Stacey Borden and Meghan Muntean, took that message to heart. They recognized how much respect and admiration they had for each other’s talents and intellects, and how they were perfect complements to each other. These fabulous young women always had entrepreneurial spirits, but the 85 Broads mission and our extraordinary members inspired them and gave them a sense of empowerment; they decided there was no question they would pursue their dreams of building their own company. After college, Meghan and Stacey used the 85 Broads network to get into the jobs and school that they wanted to help build their skill sets and prepare them for impending entrepreneurial careers.
Fast forward five years later, and Meghan and Stacey are now business partners launching one of the most creative, powerful brands I have come across in this decade: ChickRx.
ChickRx is a cutting-edge health website that delivers important expert information with an engaging, humorous tone, and creates an interactive community for young women to anonymously share their health concerns and curiosities. Having gone through my confusing 20s and now having a daughter that age, I can candidly say that I am so excited that young women finally have a resource that really “gets it” like ChickRx. Stacey and Meghan created the resource they and their friends always needed; they recognized that no health site specifically targeted young women or used a tone that resonated with them. They knew this was the passion they had to pursue and the company they wanted to build.
They began laying the groundwork for ChickRx while Stacey was an MBA student at Harvard Business School and Meghan was an Assistant Vice President on Wall Street. Thanks to the power of the 85 Broads network, they heard about a national startup competition from member Selena Soo; out of 435 entries, they won, claiming $10,000!
They then took it a huge leap further, getting angel funding and devoting themselves to ChickRx full time. As of last month, they have launched their beta site, ChickRx.com. I encourage everyone in the network to check it out because it’s a fantastic resource and a testament to the power of the 85 Broads network.
Through 85 Broads, Meghan and Stacey built the confidence, the network, and the business savvy needed to follow their dreams of starting their own company. They are living their passion for helping young women get health answers, making them feel like they aren’t alone in and shouldn’t be ashamed of their health concerns. By seeing examples like these inspiring young women, I hope to encourage you all to be bold and invest in what you love, yourself, and other inspiring women.
