Are you #1 or #10

September 12 2010

On most days I write a to do list to keep the chaos of life manageable. I’m sure many of you do. It’s a good tool to use when you’re aiming for balanced in life.
The thing is that it could become a life changing tool if used properly.

Let me ask you, what’s on your to do list? I’ll venture a guess; doctor appointments, work deadlines, kid appointments. Take a second to look at it. Where do you fall on the to-do list? Are you #3, are you #10? Are you on the list at all? The point is that we usually use to do lists to manage taking care of the other people in our lives, our bosses, our kids but we forget to use it to manage caring for ourselves.

One of the best ways to have a balanced life is to make sure that you schedule “me time.” Time to focus on your needs and your needs alone. It’s easy to leave ourselves off the to-do list but it has a lasting impact. Over time we feel unsatisfied with our lives and even resentful.

This week, put yourself as #1 on the to-do list. It doesn’t have to be a huge deal, just an hour or two, just for you. Make time to talk to a friend, take a walk, read a book, take a class.

The key to a balanced life is to actually make you a part of your master to-do list, every single week. I have worked with many clients who were shocked to see how effective this simple strategy is! The best part is that once you start it becomes addictive!

What are you waiting for? Get started! And please drop me a note and let me know what you did for yourself this week.
