Two Syllable Names: Winning Formula or Superstition??
February 11 2010
Interesting anecdote from someone I am coaching who is starting her own fashion line:
She has been struggling to get comfortable with the name she came up with for her high fashion, clothing line. She has a name; it makes sense--but it hasn't magically "pinged" for her yet.
She was recently at lunch with her very successful friend: a retired, female, former investment banker.
She hesitantly pitched the name of her company to her friend over lunch. Without looking up from her lobster salad, her friend said,
"Always remember: two syllable names are always memorable and always succeed. Stick with the name. It rocks."
Pretty insightful. While not always true..and while I do not claim to be a branding or marketing guru, this pithy one-liner got me thinking ....Google, Pepsi, Yahoo, Gucci, Hermes...
Perhaps its just a small superstitious amulet, to give us a feeling of protection on our entrepreneurial road-trip, and feel free to dismiss its value...but as for me....I will take the amulets of wisdom and comfort that present themselves in my life & work, as small graces and happily share them with others....
