Are You Giving Your Best?
February 20 2010
The front cover of Seth Godin's latest brilliant book "Linchpin" says:
"The only way to get what you're worth is to stand out, to exert emotional labor, to be seen as indispensable, and to produce interactions that organizations and people care deeply about."
That's great. So how DO you stand out? According to Jacqueline Novogratz, 85 Broads member, founder of the Acumen Fund and author of "The Blue Sweater" standing out comes from within - how you walk, how you hold yourself, how deeply you care about a cause instead of titles. It is being someone who listens, acts, and questions. Where you contribute your talent, your "art" (as Seth says) can allow you to become indispensable. As Jacqueline says, is your organization one that allows for missteps, mistakes and failures? In my mind missteps, mistakes and failures are the the organizational stepping stones for accountability, creativity and leadership.
Watch Jacqueline's video on "Are you indispensable" and ask yourself if you're "standing out" - and if you're the boss, ask if you're creating a culture which permits mistakes, creates accountability and cultivates the best.
