Women & Law & Leadership

“I certainly felt it was a value, and I think the firm felt it was a value. If you want female leaders in your law firm, the mechanism for developing those leaders is not simply within the law firm itself.”
--Sonia Martin, Managing Partner

Leadership Academy Attendee, 2007
Take a moment to think about the women partners in your law firm. Think of the potential they represent. Are they ready to step into leadership roles, or take their practice to the next level? If so, consider sending one or more to the 2010 Hastings Leadership Academy for Women, July 11-15 in San Francisco.
The Leadership Academy helps participants crystallize their career goals, teaches them to think strategically about their own careers and their firm, and imparts valuable lessons in mentoring, negotiating, having difficult conversations, and more. Through sessions with top women leaders, general counsel, and others, participants become more dynamic leaders, more passionate advocates for themselves and their firms, more savvy managers, and more empowered professionals. They leave knowing how to build stronger client relationships, cultivate more robust personal and professional networks, and manage teams and individuals more effectively.
Law firms that have sent women to the Leadership Academy have benefited dramatically. Alumnae of the Leadership Academy have become practice group leaders, managing partners, and role models within their firms. In fact, almost every alumna has remained at the law firm she was a part of when she attended the Leadership Academy.

Be sure to read what some of alumnae say about their experience at the Leadership Academy and the difference it made for them and their firms. Then encourage one or more of your women partners to join the other outstanding women who will participate in this year’s program.
The Leadership Academy is one of the best ways to capitalize on the investment you have already made in promising young partners. Invigorate and educate someone with potential, and see what happens.
