The Process Continues...

August 7 2009

After retaking the GMAT and scoring above the average for each of my target schools, I am finally feeling a bit of confidence as I begin to fill out my applications and write my essays.

My final choice of schools (at least for first round applications) has been made: Harvard, Cornell, and Yale. All three of these schools have amazing programs in social enterprise/social entrepreneurship. I recently returned from a life-changing mission trip in New Orleans rebuilding houses in a still devastated city. Upon my return I have felt pulled to work in the social sector yet I do not want to sacrifice the gifts I have been given in business and enterprise.

The pieces of the puzzle finally came together in the form of social entrepreneurship. I have started reading books on the field and speaking to trailblazing individuals who have chosen to follow this path. I want to get my MBA to give myself the education to be successful in social enterprise. I have always felt I have been blessed with the talents to make a real impact on the world, and I finally have a clear vision of how this is going to happen.

Interestingly enough, the final phrase in the vision statement of 85 Broads aligns perfectly with my goal: "to achieve not only a life of success but one of true significance."

Wish me luck.
