Inspired by Alison Levine and Meg Berté Owen

March 22 2010

I am honored to be supporting Alison Levine as she returns to Mount Everest this spring! 85 Broads member Alison Levine will climb to honor the memory of a friend and fellow 85 Broads member Meg Berte’ Owen. I had the honor of "meeting" Meg soon after starting to work for 85 Broads in fall of 2006. I was in awe of her grace under pressure and all that she had achieved. "Her obituary here":http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/journalinquirer/obituary.aspx?page=notice&pid=134711074 Meg passed away last fall of a lung infection due to complications from her treatment for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She was a a two-time cancer survivor and served on the Survivorship Board of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) where she was treated. I remember reading in More Than 85 Broads about her riding across the country with Lance Armstrong in the Tour of Hope. It was through 85 Broads and networking that Meg took part in that Tour and the story of how the NET WORKED became a point of inspiration to me. "Read Janet Hanson's blog about how Meg got to be one of thousands picked to be on this 23-person team here":http://www.85broads.com/blogs/the-latest-news-from-janet-hanson/articles/today-im-only-going-to-thank-2-people-courtney-smith-rae-and-meg-berte-owen Two pictures of Meg in the Tour of Hope rapidly became my FAVORITE photos of an 85 Broads member.

And now to have another of my heroes hiking up Mount Everest in Meg's honor is a true inspiration. I am so honored to be supporting this expedition, even though it's in a small way. 85 Broads and I will be cheering Alison on EVERY STEP OF THE WAY!!!
