In a city of 8 million people....

November 14 2009

Where does a young professional gal meet her good girlfriends?

People come to New York for endless opportunities. We put our careers first in the hopes that our hard work propels us to climb up the corporate ladder. We endure sleepless nights to drive our entrepreneurial businesses, hoping to drive them to become global enterprises. We even get bogged down managing our social calendars! There is hardly any down time; as everyone is rushing around trying to keep sane with their busy schedules.

It's hard to make connections to people. During my time of transition, I certainly felt the effects of leaving my undergraduate bubble behind and going out to dinner alone. It's not a change that I'm averse to because I was raised partly in NYC, but I won't lie and say that being on totally on my own hasn't brought me lonely moments. Having a support network is very important here, and then it occurred to me. Why not create a social young members group through 85 Broads?

I'm campaigning to start a Young Members Social Committee for the 85 Broads NYC Chapter. A group of like minded young women who feel like they have a community to be a part of; even when they feel "career'ed out!"; the sole focus would be to socialize and make friends! We would start with a new members happy hour, group dinner, spa parties and other girly fun. If you find this interesting, please send me your thoughts at steph.yiling.chin@gmail.com

Hope to meet you soon!
Steph
