2020 Vision: Here's mine
March 8 2010
We had a fabulous 85 Broads event at Hult in Cambridge on Thursday night. Got to meet some terrific MBA students and reconnect with some of our great members including Kathleen McQuiggan, Katherine Huang, Tara Faulkner, and Julia Yao Cooper. Hult is a little gem and if b-school is in your future you should definitely check out their program.
I also spoke at Tim Butler's "New Path" program at HBS on Friday -- was thoroughly jazzed by the women I met there and think Tim's CareerLeader model is amazing.
I am always energized when I get the opportunity to speak and am more convinced than ever that we are in the throes of a major transformation re: how fast the landscape is changing for women!
FACT: Women are going to dominate the world of social media. Women are natural born storytellers. They love to share their ideas with their friends and increasingly, they're sharing their insights through blogs, tweets, and social networking sites. The more they write, the more emboldened and empowered they feel.
FACT: Women are becoming their own personal PR agencies by leveraging the power of social media in a variety of exciting ways. As Gary Vee would say, they are learning how to CRUSH IT!
THE TIPPING POINT: Social media is about to make hiring women in traditional industry sectors a lot harder! No longer willing to press their noses against the window of male-dominated businesses, women are launching their own companies like LearnVest, Journelle, AhaLife!, Chick Rx, CareBinders, Cellona Therapeutics, and an array of other exciting new ventures.
You know that old adage: "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned?" Women have long been "scorned" economically, socially, professionally and politically but instead of staying at that dreary party another second, they are becoming experts in social media -- the next bold new frontier for women worldwide.
TRUST ME. IT'S HAPPENING RIGHT NOW.
