DELOITTE WOMEN ROCK

June 30 2010

Kelly Hoey and I had the opportunity to chat with Jocelyn Cunningham and several senior Deloitte women a few days ago. I go WAY back with Deloitte and have been impressed and amazed by how they've flown past their competition in what I fondly refer to as "the chick space."

I met Mike Cook, Deloitte CEO, in the early 90's. Mike was on the Board of Catalyst and was a huge fan of Sheila Wellington's, Catalyst's president. Mike had noticed that a lot of women were leaving Deloitte and he naturally assumed it was because they wanted to hang up their spikes and stay home with their kids. Turns out they were leaving, more often than not, to work for a competitor! In 1992, Mike established the Task Force for the Retention and Advancement of Women. He appointed Ellen Gabriel, rockstar extraordinaire, to be the National Director.

And as they say, the rest is history. If you log onto Deloitte's website and click on Women's Initiative you can read about the tremendous strides Mike and his colleagues made to advance women in every possible way that mattered. Sharon Allen and Margaret Mulley were named to the Board of Directors in 1995 and Sharon was elected Chair of the U.S. Board of Directors in 2003.

in 2007, Cathy Benko and Anne Weisberg co-authored a book on mass career customization and Barbara Adachi was tapped to head up Deloitte's Women's Initiative. Today, Barbara is also Deloitte's amazing blogger!

A few years ago, I was at Dina Dublon's house and met Jocelyn Cunningham, a gorgeous Aussie who runs Deloitte's securities and capital markets practice for their consulting group. I thought to myself - wow-- Deloitte's investment in smart women sure has paid off!

Which leads me to Ellen Schubert. Ellen had a HUGE career at UBS while also raising 5 - yes 5 - boys! She and her equally fab husband Kirk were our next door neighbors in Bronxville for many years. After Ellen exited UBS, she could have hung up her spikes for good. Last year, Jocelyn snagged Ellen and got her to join her team at Deloitte.

This is the magic of a really great company -- hotshot women excelling at their jobs because they love working with other equally smart women - and men!

If your company isn't a Deloitte client, there is something wrong with your company. It's just that simple. Check out their site at www.deloitte.com and be prepared to be DAZZLED.

Deloitte women really do ROCK.
