85 BROADS LAUNCHES "GUYS WHO ROCK" --  A NEW REFERRAL-BASED GLOBAL INITIATIVE

Every smart woman knows that success is all about partnership.  We passionately believe that we are at the beginning of an exciting new era of male/female co-investment and collaboration and for that reason, 85 Broads wants to be at the vanguard of that movement.

A SIGNIFICANT TREND:  Men are becoming angel and super-angel investors in projects and businesses launched by visionary women, many of whom they met in college, grad school, and/or in the workplace.  

Here are a few recent examples of super-angel investments made by three amazing guys in businesses launched by women in our network:

• Niko Canner's investment in Journelle, a lingerie company founded by Claire Chambers, who had worked for Niko at Katzenbach Partners. 
• Scott Prince's investment in AHAlife, a company founded by former fellow Goldman Sachs colleague, Shauna Mei.
  
• George Hall's investment in The Fortunate Sons, a movie being written, directed and produced by Stanford '00 grad, Danielle Lurie.  
  

Through our global "lens," we are seeing a dramatic rise in female entrepreneurship which is ushering in a wave of opportunity for super men to invest in startups launched by women in tech, fashion, film, the sciences, and all areas of e-commerce. Kleiner Perkins partner Aileen Lee recently stated: "Women are the driving force of the most important net trend of the decade, the social web." 

GUYS WHO ROCK:

Every week, we get dozens of phone calls and emails from great guys who want to join 85 Broads.  A recent email:  "I know I lack the major qualification for membership but I am passionate about investing in smart women!"  

From 1997 to 2000, 85 Broads was a network founded exclusively for current and former Goldman Sachs women who worked at 85 Broad Street, the firm's NYC headquarters, and at other GS offices worldwide.  In 2000, we realized that we were "too exclusive" and at the urging of women at Harvard Business School, we invited HBS women to join, along with thousands of women at other leading graduate business schools in the US and abroad, irrespective of chosen career path.  

In 2004, we recognized the need to include women at the undergraduate level who were pursuing every career path imaginable and over the next 3 years, we created clubs on over 40 campuses in the US and abroad.  

And in 2007, we extended membership in 85 Broads to all trailblazing women worldwide, irrespective of one's college or grad school affiliation.

Starting today, we will expand our global network by inviting our subscribing members to refer great guys for honorary membership in 85 Broads. GUYS WHO ROCK, our new referral-based initiative, will give visionary men the opportunity to join forces with a global network of extraordinary female game-changers. 

GUYS WHO ROCK honorary annual membership levels:  

Angels:   $250
Super Angels:  $1000
Rockstars:  $2500

Only subscribing members of 85 Broads are eligible to refer GUYS WHO ROCK for honorary membership.   If the candidate is approved, we will donate half of the GWR membership fee to the referring member as our way of saying thanks. Please note, all GWR applications will be rigorously reviewed and acceptance is not guaranteed. There is no "cap" on the number of referrals subscribing members can make.
