Today started off badly. The power went off in the middle of the night, the driveway flooded, and the dogs got soaked when I let them outside. But then I got this email from my son. I immediately forgot about the power outage, the monsoon rain, and the dogs making muddy tracks all over my rugs and instead thought about how lucky I am to be the mother of two amazing kids. As I love to say, it just doesn't get any better than this. Never has, never will.

just wanted to let you know that i started a breast cancer research foundation fundraiser today called Miles for Moms!  i am going to try to run as many miles as i can this october, since it is breast cancer awareness month (and for you!).  So i put together a little letter with a form so that if people want to sponsor me (certain amount per mile) they can email me or just sign the form and give it to me.

anyway, i started it this morning at 6, even though i don't have any sponsors yet, and already logged 5.5 miles (updates on twitter and facebook), not to mention in the pouring rain!  it was funny because absolutely nothing went right this morning.  i couldn't find my phone. i lost my ID. lost my iPod. my nike band stopped working.  it was pouring rain. but none of it stopped me from getting those miles in because i realized that stuff happens and it really doesn't matter.  so i just laughed and took off for the track in the rain and crushed it!
