The Perfect Valentine
February 14 2009
Valentine's Day. It's marketed as a day for lovers-- for engagements and heart-shaped tubs and bouquets of roses. But for me, it's a day to celebrate a different kind of love -- the love I have for my two children.
I got to spend Valentine's Day weekend with them. Mer and I went to the movies last night while Chris was at home watching a Rangers hockey game. Today I got to watch Chris play a fantastic school squash match --he doesn't even mind hearing my yell "Go Criff!"
As far as Valentine's Day goes, I didn't get any flowers or chocolates or diamonds or a romantic weekend. What I got was better -- I got to be with my two spectacular children who I love with all my heart. They know that being a family, for better or for worse, is what real love is all about.
